Struggling Bundesliga club Eintracht Frankfurt have appointed Christophe Daum as interim coach after Michael Skibbe was fired Tuesday following a poor run of form.

The 57-year-old Daum had previously won the Turkish league with both Fenerbahce and Besiktas, took Bayer Leverkusen to Bundesliga second place in three straight seasons, helped Cologne to top flight promotion and won the German title with Stuttgart.

He has has been appointed until June 30, although the club stated both parties were hoping to work together beyond that date.

Daum was once the rising star of German coaching and was so highly esteemed for his tactical acumen that he was being groomed as a potential national handler before a cocaine habit derailed his career somewhat.

Frankfurt fired Skibbe after a series of seven defeats, two draws and a single win over the last ten games that has seen the club slip to 14th in the Bundesliga.

The sacking represents a swift change of fortunes for Skibbe, 45, who in January extended his contract to 2012, having joined the club in 2009 after spells with Bayer Leverkusen and Galatasaray.

The Bundesliga is going through something of a managerial merry-go-round with Shalke 04 and Hamburg wielding the axe recently.

Meanwhile Bayern Munich have announced the departure of their coach Louis van Gaal at the end of the season and speculation is mounting that he will be replaced by Jupp Heynckes, who in turn has said he will quit Bayer Leverkusen after the current campaign.
